  • The Best You Can Do

    1992 Neal
    Gladstone

When you go up you’re up
When you come down you’re down
Sometimes it takes a life of mistakes
    To turn you around
    Answers are hard to find
But one thing that I can surely say
    From the long view
    The best you can do
    Is give your love away
    Verse 2
Some of us shoot for the stars
Few of us hit the mark
Playing the game of fortune and fame
    Can break your heart
Nobody knows which way the wind’s gonna blow
But one thing I can surely say
From the long view the best you can do
    Is give your love away
    Bridge 1
Against a rising tide of greed and confusion
We seem to be losing ground
    But losing or winning
    The world keeps spinning around
    Verse 3
Some of us find our passion
    Some of us never do
Most of us stand with our hat in our hand
Waiting for our dreams to come true
    Life is a dangerous game
    It’s easy to be afraid
From the long view the best you can do
    Is give your love away
    Bridge 2
In a crazy world with too many choices
The voices can bring you down
    But losing or winning
    The world keeps spinning around
    Repeat
    Just when your hope
Is at the end of your rope
    The sun can break through

  • Song for us All

In a dream I came upon a melody
There it burned me deep and burned me longBut when the sun released the morning
    The melody was gone
I closed my eyes and strained my memory
To find the notes so sweet and clear
But I was following a song
    No one would ever hear
And the song was a song for us all
But a song from a dream that I cannot recall
    Never heard never sung
    Touching no one at all
    Fingers chase the fleeting visions
    Apparitions on the keys
Looking for the strains of silver among the ivories
What a vain and lonely sorcery
How very strange it must appear
Casting spells and hearing voices that no one else can
    hear
And a song is a song for us all
But a song from a dream that I cannot recall
    Never heard never sung
    Touching no one at all
    Somewhere that melody is wandering
As it has for dark and timeless past
Searching for a lonely dreamer to set it free at last
I believe that music is in everyone
Waiting for the chance to flow
While the poets write the words that everybody knows
And a song is a song for us all
It can rise through your life and awaken your soul
This I know this I feel this I sing to you all
    In a song

  • To See You Again

    © 1993 Neal Gladstone

I was walking down a crowded steeet on a summer aftemoon
When I heard somebody laughing the way you used to do
I tried to keep from staring and I pulled my eyes away
But I could feel you there beside me like it was yesterday
And it would be so good to see you again
To look into your eyes my beautiful friend
To hear the sound of your voice and feel the touch of your hand
It would be so good to see you again
In the early years we lived our dreams in restless poetry
The future shined with our design as far as we could see
We spent those days so carelessly but then I never knew
That time would come to take me so far away from you
Life goes on and the years roll by
What I would not give to see you one more time
When I look back upon my life and who I’ve come to be
I find that there’s a part of you in every part of me
I miss you in so many ways and yet when I recall
The echo of your laughter I miss you most of all

  • Wedding Wish

    © 1996 Neal
    Gladstone

We are gathered here together on this lovely summer day
To celebrate your union and send you on your way
As you tie your dreams together with a simple
    band of gold
We wish you all the joy hearts can hold
Your lives have been a journey the stars have been your
    guide
They’ve led you to the special one who’s standing
    by your side
As you sail along together and your destines unfold
We wish you all the joy your hearts can hold
There surely will be trials along the way
No one will be spared their share of pain
But tho there may be hard times
    We take delight in sunshine
Only when we’ve come to know the lonely sound of rain
And the one that you have chosen is generous and
    kind
Knows the wisdom of forgiveness and the healing power
    of time
May they comfort and protect you and give you shelter
    from the cold
And bring you all the joy your heart can hold
    SOLO
There surely will be trials along the way
No one will be spared their share of pain
But tho there may be hard times
    We take delight in sunshine
Only when we’ve come to know the lonely sound of rain
And those of us who love you our prayers are with you
    now
We offer you our blessings and bear witness to your vow
May your home be filled with harmony from the music in
    your soul
And we wish you all the joy your hearts can hold
We wish you all the joy your hearts can hold

  • Lullaby

    © 1987 Neal
    Gladstone

Come on baby close your eyes
I am here right beside you
When you sleep the stars will rise
    To shine their lullaby
So sleep sleep easy and deep
And angels will take you flying
    Sleep sleep
May all of your dreams come true
    Resting in my arms
Not a soul can harm you now
Come on baby ease your mind
Don’t you know how I love you
Time to leave this world behind
    Everything will be alright
    Chorus

  • Dark Blue

    © 1985 Neal
    Gladstone

Blue came in through a break in my heart
Made me cold and stained me so dark
I thought I would never smile again
But the color cooled the pain in me
    And so I followed willingly
    Deep into her spell
To sleep beside the fallen angel, Blue
Dark Blue, your hand is cold
Dark Blue, please let me go
My heart was breaking, what else could I do?
Dark Blue, now hear me sing
Dark Blue, my love is dying
Keeper of the tears I’m asking you
To let some life light through
Now I have heard what lovers say
That tears can wash the blue away
That sorrow fades and love will come again
But in the color I have chosen
Hearts grow cold and tears are frozen
And dark and frozen tears will never flow
Oh Blue, please let me go

  • Dream

    , Barbara Gladstone
When your heart is filled with wishes
When you tire of life’s routine
When you see your life dissolving
    In a television screen
There’s a world of hidden pleasure
    True romance and high adventure
Waiting for the one who holds the key
It can all come true all you have to do is dream
    You can be
    Anybody’s secret lover
    Sail on rivers of champagne
    Search the stars with Galalleo
    Light the first Olympic flame
    Write poetry in Portugese
    with Baudelaire and Socrates
And know what you know now at 17
It’s waiting there for you all you have to do is dream
    You can ride brontosaurus
    Through a great primeval forest
And swim the Sea of Tranquility
    If you should be inclined
Go strolling through the crystal dunes of
    Saturn’s undiscovered moons
Where turquoise sand and ink lagoons
    Grow orchids to the sky
    You can go
Hunting with a pride of lions
Swim the oceans with a whale
    Soar above the Andes Mountains
    On a giant condor’s tail
    Dance beneath the mistletoe
    With Juliet and Romeo
And drink a toast with Shakespeare to the queen
It’s waiting there for you when you fall into your dreams
Feel the bonds of time release you
Slip away where no one sees you
To a world exquisite and serene
It’s waiting there for you all you have to do is dream

  • Come to America

    1988 Neal
    Gladstone

Sometimes when I feel blue, my dreams are pale and few
I drift through my mind, back to a time when summer was fine and new
And your memory comes like a breeze through the roses, warm in the
    afternoon
Please come to America I’ll be here waiting for you
Those days still fill my dreams, They flow like summer streams
We soaked in the sun fell in love some and before we’d begun it seems
That those days slipped away like a train from the station bound for
    a rendezvous
Please come to America I’ll be here waiting for you
    BRIDGE
    Happy landing, best of wishes
    Foreign dreams, and foreign kisses
Tonight the moon will rise Uniting distant skies
And light from the stars will travel so far
    To sparkle in foreign eyes
And I send up a dream maybe magic and moonlight
Can make such a dream come true
Please come to America I’ll be here waiting for you
    Happy landing, best of wishes
    Foreign dreams, foreign kisses
    Different ways and different notions
    Summer nights on distant oceans

  • A Little Inspiration

    © 1996 Neal
    Gladstone
    and
    Chris Kuchler

There are miracles all around us
There is poetry in our dreams
But it’s easy to overlook treasures
When we’re lost in our daily routines
We can spend our lives chasing what we long for
And sacrifice love that we don’t have time for
And never know that our souls cry out for
What”s right there all the time and that’s
    CHORUS
A little inspiration now and then
    A little sweet inspiration
All I need to get me through is you
    And a little sweet inspiration
Now the world is awash in confusion
This no one could ever deny
And it’s hard to have faith in the future
When we’re carving great holes in the sky
Now we can mourn for what this world has come to
And curse the ones we tried to turn to
But I think I am here to learn to
Reach out and sing for you with just
    CHORUS
    (Part 1)
When the world turns angry and cold
A little inspiration shines the light
To paint the world in crimson and gold
And chase away the demons in the night
    (Part 2)
When the world falls heavy on my shoulder
A little inspiration comes a shining
Into my heart to brighten my life and
Find my way back home again
There are prophecies in the thunder
There are diamonds in the grass
There are minuets in the moonlight
Inviting us to come and dance
Now as life goes by we become aware of
The few things that we can be sure of
And the steady glow of a deep and pure love
    Blows the rest away and
A little inspiration now and then
    A little sweet inspiration
All I need to get me through
Is the courage to speak what I know is true
A little help from my friends and some help from you
    And a little sweet inspiration
