Song for us All

In a dream I came upon a melody
There it burned me deep and burned me longBut when the sun released the morning
The melody was gone
I closed my eyes and strained my memory
To find the notes so sweet and clear
But I was following a song
No one would ever hear
And the song was a song for us all
But a song from a dream that I cannot recall
Never heard never sung
Touching no one at all
Fingers chase the fleeting visions
Apparitions on the keys
Looking for the strains of silver among the ivories
What a vain and lonely sorcery
How very strange it must appear
Casting spells and hearing voices that no one else can
hear
And a song is a song for us all
But a song from a dream that I cannot recall
Never heard never sung
Touching no one at all
Somewhere that melody is wandering
As it has for dark and timeless past
Searching for a lonely dreamer to set it free at last
I believe that music is in everyone
Waiting for the chance to flow
While the poets write the words that everybody knows
And a song is a song for us all
It can rise through your life and awaken your soul
This I know this I feel this I sing to you all
In a song
